Guard

Combat · player

Command words: guard
Permission: Any

The Guard command is used for a wide variety of effects that are about keeping something or someone safe.

You can guard people, things and exits. For all of these scenarios, you can guard clear to stop guarding.

Guarding People

When you guard a person, it means you will automatically use the rescue command on them if they are engaged in melee combat. You can guard more than one person at once.

The syntax for using this version is guard <target> where the target is a character. If you target the same person again, it will remove them from the list of people you are guarding.

You can also guard interpose <target> as an alias for the interpose command.

Guarding Items

When you guard an item in a room, you will not allow people to use, get or otherwise interact with the item. The syntax for this is guard <item>.

You can also guard <item> vicinity to additionally protect everything in the vicinity of the item (i.e. with a position emote targeting the item)

Anyone who you have marked as an ally or trusted ally will not be affected by your guarding of the item.

Guarding Exits

When you guard an exit, you prevent people from moving through that exit. You can also set exceptions that you will allow to pass, and forbid specific people who are listed as an exception.

The syntax for this version of the command is guard <direction>.

The syntax to set up exceptions is as follows:

guard permit allies - permit all allies
guard permit <target> - permit someone present with you
guard permit *<dub> - permit someone from your dubs list

Similarly to reverse the above you can use the following:

guard forbid allies - remove the permission for allies
guard forbid <target> - remove a particular target
guard forbid *<dub> - remove someone by dubs
